The most useful source depends on the product category and the role you need to identify. Our first 4,541 collected records show why supplier research benefits from looking beyond a single national product register.
What we looked at
This is a deliberately bounded, non-random collection from five public sources, observed on 25–26 September 2026: one Malaysian halal company record, three US drug labels, seven Colombian registration categories, a Brazilian electronics snapshot and a Mexican tequila producer/brand table. It covers nine categories in our taxonomy. It is an assessment of research opportunities in this sample, not a measurement of global supplier coverage, market size or market share.
| Source | Records collected | Useful evidence |
|---|---|---|
| JAKIM, Malaysia | 28 | Certified company-to-product connections, including cosmetics. |
| DailyMed, US | 3 | Separate manufacturing, analysis, labeling and ingredient operations. |
| INVIMA, Colombia | 598 | Manufacturer, importer and packaging roles across several consumer categories. |
| Anatel, Brazil | 2,000 | Declared manufacturers and applicants for certified electronics. |
| CRT, Mexico | 1,912 | Certified tequila producer-to-brand entries. |
Each source counts something different. These records are not equivalent SKUs, production sites or supply contracts. The CRT count is the distinct subset of 2,000 parsed rows. INVIMA groups sampled role rows into source-scoped records.
Beauty: certifications and OTC labels answer different questions
The seeded Malaysian halal entry connects 28 product listings to its certificate holder. The listing includes powders, washes and moisturisers, making halal a practical discovery route for personal care as well as food. Its value is the explicit company/product connection; a physical factory or an exclusive OEM agreement still needs separate corroboration. JAKIM company record ↗
The three DailyMed labels yielded nine role assertions, including two declared-manufacturer assertions and separate analysis, relabeling and active-ingredient operations. One label has several organisations performing different tasks. Researchers looking for formulation or bulk manufacture should not stop at the labeler or confuse the testing laboratory with the factory. These three deliberately chosen examples do not establish how often DailyMed exposes an OEM. Example structured label ↗
Food and beverage: look for schemes tied to production
The CRT sample provides 1,912 distinct certified producer/brand entries. Such a scheme can support portfolio research: start with a producer and inspect the brands connected to it. This does not mean each entry represents a separate commercial contract or current production. Certification status, the relevant product and any site detail still matter. INVIMA adds food, beverages and supplements alongside cosmetics, household, medical and pest-control records. Its 598 grouped records produced 618 manufacturer, 254 importer and 174 packager assertions in our sample. Several roles may belong to one record, and one record may name several companies. The practical benefit is separating who makes a product from who brings it into the destination market. Official INVIMA dataset ↗
Electronics: declared manufacturers are leads to verify
The Anatel sample contains 2,000 product/model records and 2,000 declared-manufacturer assertions. It also preserves 1,802 allowlisted applicant assertions. A manufacturer declaration can name the brand's own entity; it does not necessarily reveal an independent contract factory. Missing applicant assertions in this parsed sample are not evidence that the original filing lacked an applicant. Anatel official bulk data ↗
What a sourcing team can do with this
Use category-specific sources to build a cited shortlist. For beauty, inspect halal and OTC establishment evidence; for food and beverage, inspect producer certification and registration roles; for electronics, start with declarations and corroborate the legal entity and site. Record the exact product scope and named operation before contacting or qualifying a potential supplier.
Our commercial hypothesis is that this research and continued monitoring can save more time than a large undifferentiated company list. Buyer interviews and independently reviewed examples are still needed to validate that hypothesis. We have not measured customer savings, willingness to pay or supplier-match accuracy.
What daily updates will mean
These first records are backfills. Future coverage snapshots distinguish newly imported historical records from changes to previously observed records. Neither a first observation nor a changed certification alone proves a new launch, a new supply contract or a supplier switch. Useful market analysis should follow a real finding; it should not be generated simply to fill a daily publishing slot.
